Samsung and LCI hold 4th Future Display Workshop at Kent State University
LCI
On September 19, the 4th Future Display Workshop for Samsung
Electronics and Kent State University Liquid Crystal Institute
was held at Kent State University. Three previous workshops
were held at Samsung in Korea. Future meetings will be held
annually.
"It's
a huge honor to have Executive Vice President Jun Souk and Executive
Vice President S.S. Kim visit the LCI," LCI Associate Director
Dr. Philip Bos said. "They have taken Samsung from ground-level
to the leading LCD manufacturer.
Also visiting was Vice President K.H. Kim, who is the inventor
of the Patterned Vertical Alignment technology that is used on
a large percentage of the world's high-quality flat-panel displays."
The workshops
are a part of the ongoing interaction that LCI has had with key
technology personnel at Samsung.The workshop
opened with a review of the collaboration history by LCI Director
Oleg Lavrentovich, followed by KSU research presentations,
a discussion
of future collaboration
and
a tour of the LCI.
As
a token of their appreciation of fruitful collaboration with
the LCI,
Samsung
donated two 46” LCD HD televisions and pledged
their continuing support of LCI-Samsung collaboration in display
research. ###
