Prof. Antal (Tony) Jakli (CPIP/LCI) and Prof. Samuel Sprunt (Physics) have secured funding from the National Science Foundation for international collaborative research in the area of liquid crystals.

Prof. Jakli will lead the project entitled: "International Research Experiences for Students (IRES): Collaborative Research in Europe on Liquid Crystals (CRELIC-IRES)" . This award is effective September 15, 2007 and expires August 31, 2010 and will allow the CPIP graduate students to collaborate on liquid crystals with our European colleagues.

Prof. Sprunt will lead the efforts on the studies of lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals in collaboration with Oleg D. Lavrentovich's group at the CPIP/LCI and with our colleagues abroad, in Greece and Ukraine. The project is a part of the international program "Materials World Network". The project starts this September and ends in 2010.
