LC3D

LC3D is a multi-dimensional director modeling software package. Its primary design goal was to provide a user-friendly, open source PC-based director modeling package. To this end, LC3D will be released (with its source code) on this website later this year (probably Q4). The release version of LC3D will be able to handle patterned electrodes, dynamics or equilibrium calculations, with variable grid sizes. We have shown calculated results using LC3D for Ridge-Fringe-Field Mode LCDs1 as well as textural transitions in Cholesteric LCDs2. The relese version will be able to handle many more LCD modes, such as IPS, TN, STN, VA, EOC, and many more.

LC3D was written using Microsoft Visual Basic for the user interface and Digital Visual Fortran for the calculation engine. The calculation engine consists of several DLL files, to allow future expansion by simply writing another DLL file. This combination allows the interface to be very user friendly, while still getting the speed advantages of Fortran.

As LC3D is still in the development stage, this website will be updated periodically, please check back in a few months for an update. (Modified: 7/7/1999).
