Immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow in organic synthesis at the Liquid Crystal Institute (LCI) to conduct research supported by the National Science Foundation involving synthesis of functional organic molecules and novel liquid crystals.

Qualifications: Ph. D. in organic chemistry or related discipline. A strong background in organic synthesis is essential and experience with liquid crystal materials preferred.

Work Schedule: 12-month term appointment beginning July 1, 2008; possible extension depending on performance, mutual agreement and availability of grant funds.

Salary: $35,001

Postdoctoral Fellow

Applications are invited for one postdoctoral position in the field of nanobiotechnology at Liquid Crystal Institute, Kent State University. Research projects will develop novel nanophotonic devices for display and sensing applications. The successful candidate will be involved in nanofabrications in Michigan Nanofabrication Facilities (http://www.mnf.umich.edu/MNF/).

Qualifications: Ph. D. in physics, chemistry, electrical engineering or related area. Candidates are sought with strong backgrounds in one or more of these areas: plasmonic nanophotonics, biophysics or biochemistry, micro/nanofabrication, finite element numerical simulations including FEMLab and Microwave Studio. Access to equipment includes microfabrication tools and single molecule imaging/spectroscopy system, nanofabrication tools (electron beam lithography, focused ion beam).

Work Schedule: One-year term appointment beginning Jan 1. 2008; extension possible depending on availability of funding, performance and mutual agreement.
